CHELMSFORD’S RESIDENTS HEALTH AND WELLBEING

Chelmsford is committed to improving the health and wellbeing of their residents and communities, by working in partnership with local organizations and ensuring people feel empowered to achieve and maintain good health. Chelmsford ensures that priorities for promoting health in the district is identified and actions are undertaken to address them. Chelmsford’s leaders are proud that majority of the residents lead healthy and fulfilling lives. The level of good health is not across the district since there are significant issues such as differences in life expectancy across Chelmsford, high level of obesity, isolated pockets and increased older adults suffering from hip fractures indicating that there are some health and wellbeing issues that have to be addressed.

By assessing the evidence and successfully evaluating current initiatives and projects, Chelmsford will be able to face the public health challenges. Chelmsford City Council will ensure that the health and wellbeing are on top priorities. It will continue to work in a strategic and consistent manner to ensure the benefit of health and wellbeing is available to all residents of all ages throughout Chelmsford City. Many factors can affect the health and wellbeing of the residents. Factors such as unemployment, poor housing and feeling unsafe can all impact mental and physical health.

Chelmsford City Council aims to mitigate those factors as they encourage and empower people to take a more active role in their own and other’s physical and mental health, by promoting healthy weight management through diet and physical activity, controlling excess alcohol intake and supporting people to stop smoking, and also find local services to help improve their wellbeing. Through the work of Essex Health, Wellbeing Board and local health and wellbeing group, Chelmsford aims to keep track of the work that is being undertaken to address the main health and wellbeing priorities, and review approaches to ensure evidence-based, best practice is achieved.

Chelmsford works with communities and residents to reduce health inequalities and improve the opportunities for adults and children so that they can enjoy a healthy safe and fulfilling life. By joining Health City Network, they demonstrated that they are committed to embedding health and health equity in all local policies. Working with other organizations ensures formation of strong collective voice for public health and sustainable development. Chelmsford has a commitment to partnership approach so as to continue improving health and wellbeing in the district, focus on preventing ill health and early intervention and contribute to achieving effective health services.
