Dental Care

Dental care involves oral hygiene in order to maintain healthy teeth and keep the mouth clean. Oral hygiene, in turn, keeps dental disorders at bay.  A dentist, who has practised dentistry professionally, helps to provide oral hygiene and dental surgery too.

What we offer in dental care

Routine check-ups at the dentists is important, they can help identify tooth decay and treat it, treat gum disease, cavities, plaque and other teeth problems you may experience.

 A dental care visit would typically involve;

  • Checking the teeth and gums to look out for tooth decay
  • Examine your mouth and neck for any health concerns
  • Remove plaque and tartar from your teeth
  • Take x-rays of your teeth when they are checking for cracks or cavities
  • Clean and floss your teeth
  • Recommend any needed tests or procedures

Can I use private health insurance to pay for dental care?

Some people use private health insurance to settle dental care bills. However, most of the facilities/funds will take up half of the cost and you will have to pay the rest.

Policies are different among various health funds, therefore, the amount they will pay and what they offer in their covers varies. Limits on how much you can claim each year are also present.

  • Check what you are actually getting back over the course of the year against what you are paying
  • Understand ‘extras’, this is optional, additional general treatment cover that provides insurance against some of the cost of treatment by ancillary health service providers.
  • Check on what is included on your cover.
  • Routine/general dental- includes cleaning and polishing, fluoride treatments, tooth extractions and minor fillings, x-rays and examinations.
  • Major dental- Bridgework, veneers, crowns, implants and dentures, orthodontics, complex fillings
  • Watch out for the fine print. Understand that there could be a waiting period and also read the terms and conditions
