What is reablement?
Reablement services cater to people who have poor physical or mental health. These services can help them to learn or relearn skills that are necessary. In some places, it is also known as restorative care. The skills relearnt could be those skills that were lost through health deterioration. Reablement helps to restore independent functioning as the patients are able to do some things themselves.
It usually takes an approximate time of 6-12 weeks where the patient starts on activities such as relearning to use the stairs or dressing and washing. This service may be used to support discharge from the hospital or during home care.
Reablement does not always have a structured form; it can be infused into the daily and enjoyable experiences of the individual’s daily life. It provides a more positive approach while giving the patients a high level of independence too.
